NVTC TO APPROVE ANNUAL REPORT ON METRO, LEGISLATIVE AGENDA, ADDRESSING LONG-TERM TRANSIT FUNDING NEEDS
Commission will also host annual public hearing

Arlington, Va. - The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission will be asked to approve the annual NVTC "Report on the Condition and Performance of WMATA" and adopt the 2026 Legislative Agenda, two key publications laying the groundwork for the continued push for long-term transit funding, at its monthly meeting this Thursday.

NVTC's Support for Long-Term Funding for Metro

Commissioners will be asked to approve NVTC'S annual "Report on the Performance and Condition of WMATA," reaffirming NVTC's support for a long-term funding solution for Metro in Virginia that would provide operating and capital funding and highlights key operational efficiency and cost control areas for future examination.

Commissioners will also be asked to approve the Legislative and Policy Agenda, which endorses the recommendations of the General Assembly's SJ 28, Growing Needs of Northern Virginia Transportation Joint Subcommittee, which examined ways Virginia could solve its share of funding needs for Metro and other transit agencies. It also recognizes the regional work done through DMVMoves.

The "Report on the Performance and Condition of WMATA" includes additional recommendations for Metro, such as reducing the growth in costs and improving the efficiency of operations through labor cost and overtime management, the need for establishing a reserve fund, reporting and audit requirements and safety oversight.

      NVTC Annual Public Hearing

NVTC will host its annual public hearing during the Commission meeting to receive feedback on the 2026-2027 Work Plan. It identifies specific programs, projects and tasks that NVTC staff intend to perform during the period from January 2026 through June 2027 (FY 2027) and is intended to be a living document that can be updated as priorities and projects change.

Speakers can sign up prior to the 7 p.m. meeting start and will have up to three minutes to provide in-person comments. The online public comment period will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025.
