NVTC TO PRESENT PROPOSED PROJECTS FOR I-66 CORRIDOR
14 projects would move more people through the traffic congested corridor
Arlington, Va. - The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission will be briefed on applications for funding in the I-66 Commuter Choice Program of Projects and hear updates on transit related matters during the 2026 General Assembly Session at their monthly meeting this Thursday.
I-66 Commuter Choice Proposed Projects
Commissioners will be briefed on the proposed projects for the I-66 Commuter Choice program and the public comment period that opens this Wednesday. Commuter Choice reinvests money collected from tolls into projects that expand travel options and address congestion along Northern Virginia's most congested traffic corridors.
Following eligibility review, NVTC presented 14 applications for I-66 Commuter Choice funding, totaling nearly $60.5 million. They include:
- Nine bus service improvement projects, eight of which continue existing Commuter Choice funded service.
- Four new bus routes.
- One new Metro station entrance.
If approved, the proposals would fund projects for ART, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County Transit, Metro and OmniRide. Following public comment, a recommended Program of Projects will be brought to NVTC's Program Advisory Committee April 16.

Commissioners will be updated on the 2026 General Assembly Session, including efforts to establish long-term sustainable funding for public transit across the Commonwealth. NVTC has been monitoring the progress of related bills and discussions regarding Virginia's FY 2027-2028 budget.
